I’m strolling along after just starting out on one of my daily strolls when a plant catches my eye.  At first glance, I’m convinced it’s a late-blooming dogwood—the kind that graces our surroundings with delicate while blossoms. But curiosity nudges me to pause, to lean in closer.
And there it is, the twist that sets this plant apart. The leaves, elongated and graceful, defy the dogwood norm. No, this isn’t your typical dogwood; it’s something altogether different. As I scrutinize further, I notice the petals compact, as if they’re sharing secrets with one another.
Intrigued, with Google Lens in hand, the digital detective at my fingertips and the answer materializes: Franklin Tree (Franklinia alatamaha). A name that sounds both dignified and mysterious, much like the tree itself.  Enjoy!
