The project's context will involve nearby wildlife, wildlife among us, or wildlife you can access. It could include playing a role for an orphan animal, feeding birds in your backyard, going to a local park, etc. Macro Photography and insects are ideally within the category.

Our project theme is 'Accessible Wildlife,' which underscores our commitment to making wildlife experiences available to everyone, regardless of their location or resources.

Ladies and Gentleman, due to an overwhelming amount of interest, our Accessible Wildlife project has exceeded expectations, resulting in a lengthy view. So grab a coffee and prepare a comfortable seat, as this presentation may take a while. Please press play on the audio track and enjoy the next 6-9 minutes. Sincerely, Sylvie & Paul.

It was late February when a hefty-looking female groundhog appeared in the back garden, feeding off the lawn. Then, to my surprise, two little pups and the mother again fed from the grass in April. Whenever I opened the house's sliding doors, they would scutter, take cover under the garden shed, and hide. This carried on for weeks. One day, the mother disappeared, perhaps taken by a predator from the woods, and by June, the other pup had vanished. We call him Whistler. He hangs out by the shed and has dug an escape route by the fence. He loves to dine on the lawn, and I throw him grapes, nuts, and, lately, carrots. He now approaches the house and takes a banana from my hand, but he's nervous about camera work and fine-gorging himself for hibernation.

I often wonder how Whistler sleeps so dark and lonely in his burrow, deep in the earth. They are solitary creatures. Yesterday (on August 30th), he got his first carrot, and I'm sure he dreams of having many more before the frost arrives.

I took these photos of the tree frog three years ago, shortly after I moved into my new house in the countryside, which is visited by all kinds of animals. This tree frog spent quite some time in my garden and on my terrace... she let herself be photographed without a care in the world...

Courtship display of the great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus)

In spring, head to the water's edge to see great crested grebes perform the beautiful, ritualized moves of their courtship display. In my photo series, however, the courtship dance is abruptly ended by a rainstorm.

These photos were taken on March 31, 2023, from a public pier on Lake Pfäffikon (Switzerland).

The black capped chickadee. A local park offers opportunities to hand feed these friendly birds as they are quite used to human contact and a source of food. Coming into such close contact with them lifts my spirits, as does all encounters with nature.

In My Back Yard

Literally in my back yard each and every day, I enjoy seeing these magnificent birds.
The Cormorant is a diving bird, that submerges it's entire body hunting for fish, vegetation, etc.
The Snowy Egret that wades along the shore hunting for small fish, lizards, etc.
The Osprey pair guarding it's young in the nest.

Millennia ago, our ancestors' artistic expressions revealed the importance of animals in their lives.

These photos are from a place I recently visited (Serra da Capivara-Piauí-Brazil) and I was deeply moved by seeing prehistoric paintings made by humans who lived there.

Many of the drawings are of animals that no longer exist. All of this made me think about life.

This last one is the symbol of Serra da Capivara - a deer with a fawn.

How pathetic, [yes] soulless is our [custom] convention,
of putting animals in a landscape that belongs to our
own eyes instead of us sinking into the soul of the animal,
[so that we would know his view of the world]
and be able to do more than guess about the picture.

A small river called Rawka flows through the city where I live. It meanders over a fairly large area.
A small section of the river is favored by beavers. Even though it is an urban area and there is a bike path next to the river, the beavers do not care. The trees along the banks are wrapped in wire mesh.
I did not have the opportunity to take a picture of a beaver, although I have seen them several times, so I decided to paint it:).

Frederic the Squirrel

I like walking on this little hill, the view on the Frédéric-Back park is superb. On this day, September 22, 2022, there going up the hill, I saw this little squirrel. He seemed so good. When he saw me, he quickly got on his hind legs. My presence changed his plans. I take a few slow steps and I stopped to photograph him. Meanwhile, his eyes were darting from side to side as if he had a plan B in case an intruder came his way. In less than a minute, I took 35 photos. Then Frederic the Squirrel went away. Here are the two best of this little guy.
