Recently, as I wandered through one of the paths around Children's Hospital, I wasn't expecting to see much since most of the plants have lost their flowers and leaves by this time of year. Near the end of the path, I came across a tall oriental stone lantern covered with lichen. Upon closer inspection, I discovered these fascinating trumpet cup lichens—something I don't recall seeing before. The scene is quite deceptive because each of these trumpets is less than an inch tall, and some even have a striking red top.  Enjoy!
