Hellebores are one of those resilient plants that can brave the cold and even freezing temperatures. This particular one captured my attention because, upon close inspection, you can see that the top left flower is quite young with a tangle of anthers just beginning to emerge and the four style stems in the center just starting to poke through. In contrast, the lower right flower is much further along, with a full tangle of anthers fully deployed and a tight cluster of styles holding the center together. Finally, in the lower left, you can see the finished product where all the anthers have fallen away, leaving behind the now fertilized ovules. I hadn't noticed this level of detail in one plant and with flowers in a tight group like this. Enjoy!
